環境基盤研究室では、これからの大都市の環境を支える新しい「環境基盤」の姿を、「社会資本（都市インフラ，ライフライン、都市設備、建築設備等）」と「自然資本（水、緑、風、土等の自然的要素）」の両面から描くことを目的として研究を進めています。環境都市づくりの理論を追求し、環境制御のシステムデザインを展開します。
