Laboratory Overview
Development of geotechnical method for mitigating natural disaster
Our laboratory study mechanical properties of soils to develop techniques for mitigating natural disasters such as earthquake and heavy rain. When a large earthquake occurs, liquefaction phenomenon occurs in sand deposits at coastal area. The liquefaction causes severe damage of structures. Our laboratory investigates the behavior of ground during an earthquake and develops the techniques for preventing soil deposits from liquefaction.
Laboratory Character Cement-treated ground by deep mixing has been used as the liquefaction mitigation method. Our laboratory investigates mechanical properties of cement-treated soils and spatial variability of strength of improved ground.
